The Elementary School was established in 1983 to provide the opportunity for children, aged 6 to 12 years, to develop an enriched learning environment. It was originally Casa Montessori de Vista, an extension of Casa Montessori de Carlsbad, which provides education for children 2 1/2 to 6 years.

Our program is designed to foster intellectual, emotional, social and physical growth. The aim is to offer an excellent education which prepares the student for a productive happy life. The school must be flexible and committed to addressing each student as a unique individual. Also, the school must commit to the community and work to facilitate student participation in the community where the individual's life will make a positive mark.

The average enrollment for the past 20 years has been 36 students in grades 1-6. There has been a ratio of 1:12 for teachers to students. Each teacher holds a bachelor's degree, state credential and has received Montessori training.

Montessori Arts and Sciences School follows principles of Dr. Maria Montessori, where hands-on activities lead to understanding abstract concepts. By "doing", the student becomes confident, self-reliant, organized and reaches out for knowledge and skills.

When students advance, they are welcomed into quality, advanced programs for middle and high schools. Many students that have attended this elementary school have gone on to be successful in gaining BA and BS degrees and are enjoying productive work in the community. They include doctors, composers, teachers, researchers, business professionals and policy makers.
